Vermillion Flycatcher

The intense reds of the Vermillion Flycatcher strain the ablilities of any digital camera used for Digiscoping. Full sun shots are next to impossible. The red saturates and all feather detail is lost. This bird, not quite in full adult plumange, was also perched in the open shade under a small tree at Estero Llano Grande State Park in Weslaco, TX. Ideal shot for this difficult bird!

Vermillions were easy that day anyway. There had to 20 or 30 individuals along the trails, feeding actively and perching up nicely in all lights.

Zeiss PhotoScope 85FL at about 40x (1600mm equivalent field of view). 1/500th @ ISO 100. Metered at about f5.0.

Only basic sharpening and bit of added Clarity and Vibrance in Lightroom. Blackpoint slightly to the right.

Zeiss PhotoScope 85 FL.
